Sunday Jul 30, 2023
Sunday Jul 30, 2023
This week, Executive Director Erik Russell continues our study in EXODUS: The Giving of the Law, as he focuses on Exodus 20:22-21:11. In today's message, Erik looks at the laws given by God to Moses for the Israelites to follow. He discusses the importance of the Law in the early days of humanity, emphasizing the need for clear guidelines due to the influence of sin. Erik also addresses the relevance of certain laws today, highlighting the shift from living under the law to living under God's grace through Christ. He encourages believers to find rest in Jesus and to approach worship with sincerity rather than relying on external rituals. ABOUT THE SERIES: The book of Exodus is foundational to the story of God's relationship with humanity. The pivotal events recorded in the second book of the Bible demonstrate God's great love for His people by rescuing them from slavery in Egypt, forming them into a nation and establishing a covenant with them. In the first 7 chapters we’ll see how God chose Moses – an abandoned child in a dangerous time who later commits murder as an adult – and redeemed his life to make him into Israel's great prophet, emancipator and leader. We meet at 4:00 pm in person every Sunday afternoon at 7755 Tenth Line West, Mississauga. We'd love to meet you and invite you to join us there!

This week, Pastor Bartley Sawatsky continues our study in EXODUS: The Giving of the Law, as he focuses on Exodus 20.
Exodus 20 contains the Ten Commandments, given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai. These commandments establish fundamental principles for moral conduct, including worshiping only one God, refraining from idolatry, respecting others' lives and property, and being truthful and honest. They serve as a core ethical guide for the Israelites and continue to be central to Judeo-Christian beliefs and values.

Today, Chad Fugere kicks off the next section of our study in EXODUS series with The Giving of the Law, as he focuses on Exodus chapter 19. In Exodus chapter 19, the Israelites arrive at Mount Sinai, and God speaks to Moses, instructing him to convey a message to the people. God reminds them of how He brought them out of Egypt on eagle's wings and calls them to be a treasured possession and a kingdom of priests. Moses conveys God's message to the people, and they respond with obedience, purifying themselves and consecrating themselves for the encounter with God. On the third day, thunder, lightning, a thick cloud, and the sound of a trumpet emerge on the mountain, signifying the presence of God. Moses leads the people to the foot of the mountain, and God descends upon it in fire, causing it to tremble. The chapter highlights the preparation and anticipation of the Israelites as they approach a sacred encounter with God at Mount Sinai.
