Can people be good without being religious? ROMANS, Week 8
Sunday Jan 07, 2024
Sunday Jan 07, 2024
Pastor Bartley Sawatsky returns to our series on Romans, continuing from Chapter 4 of Paul's writings. The Apostle Paul's writing underscores the centrality of faith by weaving together themes of redemption through Jesus, the transformative power of grace and freedom from the bondage of sin. Romans 4:13-25 is a passage from the New Testament of the Bible, written by the Apostle Paul. In this passage, Paul discusses the concept of faith and righteousness in the context of the covenant that God made with Abraham. He emphasizes that Abraham's righteousness came through faith in God's promise, not through adherence to the law. Paul argues that faith is the key to receiving God's grace and righteousness, and it is not dependent on human works or adherence to religious laws. He uses Abraham as an example of someone who believed in God's promises, and his faith was credited to him as righteousness. Paul underscores the universal nature of this principle, asserting that faith is the means by which both Jews and Gentiles can receive God's righteousness. Overall, the passage highlights the centrality of faith in God's promises for justification and righteousness. Can God really make bad people good? ROMANS, Week 7
Sunday Nov 26, 2023
Sunday Nov 26, 2023
Pastor Bartley Sawatsky continues our series through the book Romans. Our study today focuses in on Romans 4:1-12 and asking the question, "Can God really make bad people good?"
Romans 4:1-12 focuses on the theme of faith and righteousness, using the example of Abraham. The passage highlights that Abraham was justified by faith, not by works, and emphasizes that faith itself is credited as righteousness. It draws attention to the idea that righteousness is a gift received through faith, applicable not only to those who follow the law but to all who share Abraham's faith. The passage underscores the universality of God's grace and the foundational role of faith in the journey toward righteousness.
God's transformative power is manifested through Jesus' propitiation for us. Romans 4:1-12 and other biblical passages affirm that righteousness is credited through faith, and through Christ's sacrificial act, God reconciles and transforms individuals, making them righteous despite their shortcomings. The propitiation provided by Jesus demonstrates God's capacity to redeem and make people morally upright through the acceptance of His grace.

Sunday Nov 19, 2023
This week, Pastor Bartley Sawatsky continues our series through the book Romans. Our study today focuses in on Romans 3:21-31 and asking the question, "How can I gain God's approval?"
Romans 3:21-31 emphasizes that righteousness is obtained through faith in Jesus Christ, distinct from adherence to the law. The passage underscores that all, regardless of their background, can be justified by faith, as everyone falls short of God's glory. Paul asserts that faith does not nullify the law but establishes it, highlighting the transformative power of belief in Christ for salvation.
According to Romans 3:21-31, gaining God's approval is not achieved through adherence to the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. The key is to trust in Christ's redemptive work, as all fall short of God's standards. By embracing faith in Christ, one can receive justification and approval from God, irrespective of personal shortcomings.
